The Great American Seafood Cook-Off, held since 2004, was won by chef John Besh the first year. Chef Tory McPhail won in 2009, and numerous times Louisiana chefs have been in the top three. This year, Aaron Burgau of Patois was third. In 2006, chef Frank Brigsten's "Rebuilt Louisiana Seafood Platter" included many elements, including marinated crab claws served in a cucumber cup with green onion sauce. Read more

Oklahoma team wins national 4-H seafood cook-off contest

A team of young chefs from Oklahoma captured top honors in the Great American Seafood Cook-Off 4-H Edition. The Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board held the event on Sunday in New Orleans. The 4-H team of Dusty Dollins and Spencer Riley from Jackson Co., Oklahoma, had the winning recipe of Southwest Okie Catfish.

Mark Ballen, the chef at Lucky Fins Seafood Grill in Boise, will take part in a cooking competition put on by the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board August 2.

Chef Mandy Dixon to represent Alaska at seafood cook-off

FAIRBANKS - Gov. Sean Parnell and the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute have chosen chef Mandy Dixon to represent Alaska at the Great American Seafood Cook-off in New Orleans on Aug. 2.

A lifelong Alaskan, Dixon is the chef and owner of La Baleine Café, a seaside café on the Homer Spit. She also serves as Within the Wild Adventure Company’s pastry chef.

Baked Alaska competes in the Great American Seafood Cook-off

Baked Alaska’s Chris Holen will be one of 18 chefs who will compete at the 11th Annual Great American Seafood Cook-Off in Louisiana in August. Christopher Holen is the Executive Chef and Owner of Baked Alaska in Astoria. He grew up outside Anchorage, AK, graduated from The Scottsdale Culinary Institute, and opened Baked Alaska in Astoria in 2000. “I’m so proud to represent my home city of Astoria and the beautiful state of Oregon, competing against a group of America’s most talented chefs,” Holen said.

CHEF AARON BURGAU CROWNED KING OF LOUISIANA SEAFOOD

Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne is announcing Chef Aaron Burgau of Patois in New Orleans as the 2014 King of Louisiana Seafood. Burgau was crowned today at the seventh annual Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off presented by the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board. His dish of Crawfish and Pappardelle Pasta with Ramp Greens Purée and Uni Butter captivated the judges and won him the title.
